The University of Virginia's Center for Behavioral Health & Technology

(http://med.virginia.edu/bht) in the School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences is seeking a Software Engineer 1 to assist in developing and maintaining web and mobile-based applications for a growing number of medical and behavioral health conditions. We are seeking a software engineer to help build the next generation of technology-based health interventions. The successful incumbent will implement and manage web applications, be a team player, and have a strong desire to grow their skill-set in software development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Bulleted Duties and Responsibilities list)

• Assist with producing and maintaining department applications to accomplish business needs.

• Assist with project related tasks from start to finish and/or assist with components of more complex projects as needed.

• Support code from specifications conforming to established methodology and standards.

• Conduct unit tests of either new or modified applications.

• Participate in code reviews to represent reviewed work for adherence to standards and specifications.

• Work with teams to test and document modifications; write operational instructions.

• Support the analysis of performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on user consultations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associates degree required. Bachelors in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
Experience: At least one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require

traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Preferred Experience:

• Some experience in software development including web application development - specifically knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; internships and experience during school will be considered.

• Experience with one or more modern programming languages (Ruby on Rails, Python, etc.).

Anticipated Hiring Range: $45,000 - $63,000 commensurate with education and experience.

This is a restricted position and is contingent on the continued availability of funding.

This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas and will remain open until filled.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
