The Department of Ocean Science at the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting full time opportunity for a skilled Software Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a key role in developing and maintaining a Python-based software solution at the forefront of climate science.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with oceanographers and climate scientists to understand their research needs and contribute to the development of software solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain Python-based open-source software to support climate science research.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
- Conduct thorough testing of software to ensure reliability and robustness.
- Develop example notebooks and documentation to facilitate user understanding and adoption.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software solutions into broader research initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 2 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience in Python development with a strong understanding of software engineering principles.
- Familiarity with climate science or a keen interest in learning about the field.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
