The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Software Engineer, Department of Geoscience, College of Science (REMOTE) [R0132496].

ROLE of the POSITION

Housed in the Department of Geoscience, the UNLV-FIA Information Management Research Group is a federally-funded research program. Our group has worked in partnership with the Research & Development division of the USDA Forest Service since 1998. We provide data management and analysis solutions and software and database programming support for the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) National Program, which researches and reports on the status and trends of America's forests. The purpose of this position is to provide analysis, design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of FIA information management systems and tools. There are opportunities to work on a variety of FIA projects, with project assignment based on the employee's particular skillset and on FIA priorities. Project responsibilities include information management systems development (e.g., full-stack application programming and/or RDBMS development), systems analysis, stakeholder engagement (e.g., requirements gathering), design and prototyping, debugging/testing, and technical documentation.

NOTE: This position will work remotely from anywhere in the United States.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-3 years of experience in software engineering (10+ years of experience preferred). The ability to pass a federal background check and obtain and maintain the credentials necessary to access the federal network and tools is required for this position. The person who fills this position must reside in the U.S.

Technical Skills

Languages: Java, JavaScript, SQL, PL/SQL (optional: C#, PHP, Python, R)

Client/Browser Technologies: HTML, CSS, jQuery

IDE (optional): PL/SQL Developer, Eclipse, IntelliJ Idea

RDBMS: Familiarity with Oracle, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server (optional: Oracle Spatial, Microsoft Access)

.Net Technologies (optional): ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, XML, Web Services, Windows Services

Other Technologies: Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and/or Sonarqube (optional: Spring Framework, Spring Boot, PrimeFaces, Hibernate

Environments: Familiarity with cloud environments, CI/CD deployments (optional: PL/SQL Developer, Eclipse or IntelliJ Idea IDE)

Version Control: Git or similar platform
