As part of the Applications & Data Services – Student Collaboration Center team, the Software Engineer 1 will create and support the University’s Student business software applications and integration with external systems and services. Primary support will be in the Student Financials area, but tasks may overlap with the Student Academic area.

 

Working independently or as part of a supportive team, the qualified candidate will develop best-practice technical solutions that enable new functionality, create efficiencies, and enforce University Policies in support of student service offices University wide (Bursar, Student Financial Services, Registrar, Admissions, etc.). 

The selected candidate will be working in a university setting with exposure to multiple technologies, including Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, database object creation, web development (Java, .NET), Cognos Reporting, forms development, Workflow and Imaging, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, etc.  Experience with Banner or other ERP systems would be a plus. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years IT related experience. Experience creating and modifying Oracle objects (packages, procedures, triggers, functions, tables, views, etc.). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 Required Skills & Abilities:

* Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals.

* Strong working knowledge of relational database concepts.

* Basic knowledge of backend and frontend development tools:

Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, C#, SQL server, MySQL, Python, JSON, Microsoft Dynamics, JAVA, HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks, and open-source web application frameworks.

* Knowledge of principals of responsive web design, user experience, and accessibility.

* Strong interpersonal skills; be able to build strong relationships with clients and team members.

* Ability to collect business requirements, document use-cases and processes.

* Take initiative to learn the environment, understand the tech stack, internal ITS processes and procedures.

* Suggest improvements to existing applications.

* Be able to apply time management skills and manage your own projects with minimal supervision.

 Preferred:

* Experience with Ellucian Banner Student Information System

* Prior experience with agile and waterfall project management methodology.

* Familiarity with Student application support/development.

* Experience gathering requirements from end users and stakeholders

* Experience creating process flows using diagramming tools such as Visio, Fluidchart, SmartDraw, etc.

* Experience researching, diagnosing, and demonstrating data inconsistencies

* Experience with CRM technology

* Experience with server administration

 This position requires a background check.
