Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
ITS Software Distribution provides a single, centralized point of contact for campus members to find and obtain software on campus.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Software Distribution Specialist will work with the Software Distribution Team in a fast-paced environment managing daily operations to ensure that the needs of campus users are being handled in a timely and professional manner. This position will manage distribution of software licenses to campus users through various fulfillment methods. Maintain software inventory by purchasing additional licenses when necessary. Will provide tech support services to customers and advise of the product intended use. The Software Distribution Specialist will also be responsible for the online presence resource for current offers and pricing through the Software Distribution website.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Integration; Networking Technology, or related areas and two years of experience in the Information Technology field related to the position’s role; or a
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role, or a
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
- Journey level requires an additional one year of experience. 
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Applicant should have strong experience with Windows and Mac operating systems.
* Applicant should understand software lifecycle management.
* Applicant should have the ability to troubleshoot and research software issues.
* Applicant should have strong experience operating in a Microsoft 365 environment.
* Applicant should be efficient, well organized, and the ability to multi-task.
* Applicant should have strong customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience using eProcurement platforms.
* Experience maintaining websites using tools such as WordPress.
* Experience using ServiceNow or comparable IT Services Management system.
* Experience with Microsoft Excel and creating/editing formulas. 
* Experience in a university or higher-education setting
