Job Summary
Come join our dynamic team to shape the future of user experience and access to knowledge in a vast and ever-growing digital library. The Digital Infrastructure department at the J. Willard Marriott Library is seeking a customer-focused software developer to help support our software development needs and maintain digital library infrastructure. As a member of our software development team, you will play a key role in developing and shaping mission-critical infrastructure to facilitate cutting-edge research, digitization and dissemination of cultural heritage. Your contributions will directly impact the creation of knowledge that enriches the University of Utah community and serves millions of users accessing our Digital Library resources each year. The successful candidate will collaborate with fellow developers, web designers, faculty, researchers, and staff to innovate and enhance Digital Library, Research Data, and other electronic services. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a background in software development, who can work effectively, both independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Support Digital Library infrastructure, which include Samvera Hyrax, OmekaS, and custom developed PHP, JavaScript, and Ruby applications.
  • Manage existing applications, ensuring smooth operation through bug fixes and enhancements, while providing user support and collaborating with stakeholders and work on data integrations with vendor products.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of data science best practices, data analytics methodologies, and the creation of impactful usage reports and data-driven assessments.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive developer and user documentation.
  • Conduct research to identify and recommend new applications, tools, and features that align with Marriott Library Digital Library project objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a strong motivation to expand technical knowledge.
  • Experience with Linux server environments, AWS/Google/Azure cloud services, Git version control system, and cloud services.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript, along with MySQL database management.
  • Familiarity with inclusive software development standards such as accessibility (WCAG 2.0) and internationalization best practices.
  • Proficiency with an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) or editor, such as Vim, IntelliJ, VSCode, or JetBrains.
