I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary: | GW Libraries and Academic Innovation (GWLAI) enriches the academic experience of scholars and students and sparks innovation at GW. Our people, programs, partnerships, and services enable research and teaching through access to the latest scholarship as well as rich archival resources; tailored support for researchers at all levels; guidance for faculty who want to explore new teaching methods and technologies in the classroom; and robust support for online education. Through innovative partnerships, dynamic workshops, and team-based approaches to project management and problem solving, GWLAI fosters collaboration and provides leadership across the university to support the shared mission of generating, making accessible, and preserving new knowledge. GW’s Open Source Programs Office (OSPO) will help users discover and use open source tools, methods and processes in their academic work and provide researchers with support they need for configuring computing infrastructures that enable the use and development of open source software. Working with the staff and librarians in GWLAI, this position will work closely with researchers, faculty, and students to help them to learn and use open source software in their research and other projects through teaching workshops and individual consultations. Reporting to the Director of Scholarly Technology, the Software Developer will: - Promote the development of open source projects to faculty, researchers, staff, and students at the university. - Provide support for GW researchers using open source tools on topics of programming, data analysis, and web application development through consultations, workshops, and participation in research teams. - Collaborate broadly across campus to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across GW’s open source community. - Contribute to software or web application development projects happening in GWLAI. The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |

Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
