We are seeking a Full-Time Software Developer III to join the Dell Center for Healthy Living as part of the UTHealth School of Public Health in Austin, TX. This position will support the Texas Safe Babies Project (https://www.txsafebabies.org/ ). In this position, you will work with a team to develop websites and mHealth tools. You'll also support the development of various interactive web-accessible tools and will be responsible for improving the existing infrastructure for current web tools. This is a hybrid position with some workdays on-site and some remote. This position is located in Austin, TX.

Position Summary:

Provides technical skills required to analyze science, engineering, business, and other data processing problems to design solutions to automate or facilitate various education, research, and business processes. Performs Full-Stack development and support website development and maintenance for public health initiatives related to the Texas Safe Babies projects. 

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops and implements complex applications, application databases, and interactive Web interfaces according to design specifications and departmental standards; establishes test plans and data; validates and verifies application functions; and prepares necessary forms and documentation for implementation.
  • Collaborates with UI/UX designers to code, test, debug, and install new features
  • Writes and maintains technical documentation for application requirements, coding standards, and operational procedures.
  • Maintains, revises, and updates current application code or configuration, including troubleshooting, fixing bugs, and improving functionality. Resolves problems that arise with existing production applications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Experience with computer hardware, software and programming.
  • Excellent technical and general communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience with Web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Preferred:

  • Proficient with version control systems (Subversion/GIT) and adept at project management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure inclusive and accessible web development.
  • Proficiency in the AWS Cloud platform.
  • Experience with WordPress or alternative CMS frameworks.
  • Familiarity with React or React Native.
  • Familiarity with REST-based APIs, including Node.js framework.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or related experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
