Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Software Developer II! The Software Developer works in conjunction with other software developers to create new applications, provide bug fixes and updates to existing applications and to provide customer support for applications. This position is an intersection between business process, technology, and user experience.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Coding: As directed, reads and writes code in PHP, Vue, HTML, CSS, and other coding languages as needed Code is written according to the standards of AIS's code of standards. Provides documentation for any code that is written. Writes unit testing to test code before each code update. Deploys code updates to servers. Performs business process analysis during the application development process. Creates bridging software to connect other systems through API’s to UVU.       
  • Design: Assists in the design and implementation of technologies to deploy applications created in AIS. Participates in the design of data structures for the applications in MySql. Follows up with customers to discuss progress on their project/application. Coordinates with system users to design software to solve the business needs of department according to a thorough business process analysis.
  • Maintenance: Modifies, maintains, and updates existing programs of a standard nature. Reviews code before deployment to ensure accuracy and minimize bugs. Updates work done on the tickets in Jira. Troubleshoots issues with current applications. Follows-up with customers on testing of applications.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related field; OR an associate’s degree and two years of experience related to the summary of duties; OR any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling four years.
Licenses or Certifications:
Successful completion of in-house assessment of job-relate skills (within 60 days of hire), or 1 year proficiency in position.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

 
Knowledge          

  • Knowledge and experience with relational database concepts, including SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and prepared statements
  • Knowledge of automated testing approaches, ranging from granular unit tests to functional tests of entire applications
  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery or Vue.js
  • Knowledge of effective and efficient project management practices
Skills      
  • Proficient skills in coding using SQL, PL/SQL, MSSQL, HTML, CSS, PHP, jQuery, javascript and Vue.js
  • Skills in project management and business process analysis
  • Skills working with version control systems.
Abilities 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and exercise effective interpersonal, problem-solving, team oriented, and decision-making skills where a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Ability to resolve problems by thinking logically, identifying tasks, and developing modular programming steps.
  • Ability to take initial direction and then be able to work independently on projects.
  • Ability to keep current with industry standards and trends by attending training and conferences; reading technical material; and corresponding with other professionals.
