The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Pediatrics, Mailman Center for Child Development Center has an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker, LCSW. The Social Worker, LCSW works with clients in order to help them deal with issues involving mental and emotional health. This position provides emotional support, mental health evaluations and therapy, and case management services.

  • Advocates for and helps clients gain access to resources while confronting their personal issues.

  • Counsels and provides crisis intervention for patients, including assessment and treatment of behavioral problems.

  • Coaches patients on how to manage ongoing health conditions.

  • Provides therapy to help patients make positive behavior changes.

  • Assists patients and their families through individual, group, and education conferences to understand, accept, and follow treatment recommendations.

  • Refers patients and their families to specialized treatment programs in accordance with their needs and monitors and evaluates their progress.

  • Collaborates with the other departments to integrate care where needed.

  • Maintains current and appropriate documentation in patient chart.

  • Acts as a mandated reporter in suspected child abuse cases.

  • Provides psychosocial intakes to all new patients and families to facilitate initial and periodic multidisciplinary treatments and evaluations.

  • Performs as Field Educator for MSW students interns to enhance the provision of pediatric social work interventions for children and families served in the UM MCCD/TEI collaboration.

  • Maintains active licensure status with the FL State Board in Clinical Social Work

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                        

  • Master’s Degree in social work

  • Florida license in Clinical Social Work required. 

  • 1 year of relevant experience in a healthcare setting required.

  • Experience working with children and families with developmental disabilities in a medical or mental health setting, and knowledge of resources applicable to these populations.

  • Ability to work with children in educational settings, including difficult-to-evaluate children.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
