Job Duties
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine seeks a licensed clinical Social Work Practitioner to work in its Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: evaluation and assessment of patients’ mental status, behavioral and social circumstances, family dynamics and resources; biopsychosocial formulation and DSM diagnosis; independently triage and prioritize patients for hospitalization, emergency treatment, early appointment or routine appointment; perform emergency and crisis intervention for immediate emergency or walk-in patients; and provide individual, family, marital, and group therapy. The position also participates in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, psychiatry residents, and other health professional trainees.
The candidate of choice has to establish and maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with providers and referral sources in the region, both as part of a marketing and referral process and to assure that patients are connected to the appropriate treatment program including interfacing with community support systems. He/she has to ability to communicate effectively with the population served, including their families, and work professionally and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide services for clients and families is.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) will also be considered. All licenses must be current with their respective Board and unrestricted.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Master’s degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Three years of experience to include case management, client assessments and referrals, and psycho-social support and therapy.
License or Certification required by the Department
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) will also be considered. All licenses must be current with their respective Board and unrestricted.
