General Notes

This is a grant-funded position and reassignment will be based upon performance, progress toward research goals and continuation of funding. This position is expected to observe safety guidelines recommended by the university, including social distancing and other protective measures. Travel required to and from project offices and participant residences.

Purpose

This position will provide in-home visits and close face-to-face contact with disabled older adults, as most older adults require intensive training in the use of iPads and trouble-shooting. The Fall Prevention (FP) program also includes iPad-based exercise programs. Lay counselors and coaches will provide in-person demonstrations to assist older adults in use of the programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct five (5) Tele-Behavioral Activation (Tele-BA) sessions and/or four (4) Fall Prevention (FP) sessions for each participant who will be randomized to participate in Tele-Behavioral Activation (Tele-BA) alone, Tele-Behavioral Activation (Tele-BA) and Fall Prevention (FP), or Fall Prevention (FP)alone. Conduct two (2) telephone booster calls while adhering to treatment fidelity. Take progress notes for each session. Make telephone support calls for Attention Control (AC) to study participants.
  • In-person delivery of iPads and other study handouts. Provide in-home iPad instructions and trouble-shooting for research participants.Conduct in-home, telephone, or video-conference baseline assessment of each participant who will be randomized to participate in Tele-Behavioral Activation (Tele-BA), Fall Prevention (FP) and Attention Control (AC). Make telephone support calls to participants. Keep records of client roster, assessment schedule and status of study participants.
  • Communicate with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigators, Project Manager, Clinical Supervisor and other study site personnel regarding participants' clinical status as needed. Prepare for and attend meetings with UT research team and with Meals on Wheels case managers.
  • Collaborate with the community partner case managers in pre-screening potential eligibility of home-delivered meals clients or other home-bound older adults for participation in the study using face-to-face and email communications.
  • Keep inventory of equipment, setting-up equipment, maintenance of equipment as needed and delivery and retrieval of tele-equipment. Provide compensation for research study participants. Work with IT support Services as needed.
  • Work with case managers with respect to the participants' issues that may require case management versus those that may require intervention sessions.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related fields such as gerontology, communications, psychology, human development and social services with related experience. Attention to detail. Excellent communication skills.Values the contributions of others in the work environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Prior social service experience involving older adults is not required but preferred. Bilingual in Spanish.


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.


Salary Range

$46,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

  • M-F, Flexible between 8am-6pm
