The Social Media Content Specialist at the University of Miami is responsible for creating engaging and on- trend content across all social media platforms. This individual will conceptualize and produce daily content, capitalizing on trends, memes, and cultural references, to enhance the university's online presence.

Additionally, the Social Media Content Specialist will cover on-site events across all university campuses to capture photo and video assets for social media use. Staying up-to-date on emerging social media trends is crucial, and the role will require flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 CORE JOB FUNCTIONS  

Content Creation:

• Conceptualize and produce trending and ad-hoc content, including memes, cultural references, and other engaging materials, for daily posting across all social media platforms.

• Ensure content aligns with the university's brand voice, values, and strategic objectives.

Event Coverage:

• Attend on-site events across all university campuses to capture photo and video assets for social media use.

• Collaborate with event organizers and stakeholders to ensure content captures key moments and highlights university initiatives effectively.

Trend Monitoring:

• Stay up-to-date on emerging social media trends, memes, and cultural moments to inform content creation strategies.

• Monitor competitor activities and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.

Flexibility:

• Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed to cover live events, engage with online communities in real-time, and capitalize on trending topics.

Other Duties:

•Undertake other duties as assigned, which may include supporting larger social media initiatives and assisting with content publishing and community management, and content strategy development.

Minimum Qualifications  

Education: 

Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field preferred, with demonstrated experience in content creation and social media management. 

Experience:   

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.  Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: 

  • Expert platform knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and emerging social media platforms.

  • Working knowledge of content creation and editing tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc., to produce high-quality visual content.

  • Familiarity with social media publishing tools, with experience using platforms such as Meltwater, Hootsuite, and Facebook Creator Studio preferred.

  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate ideas into engaging social media content.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
