Job Summary

The Social Media Specialist is a professional contributor in the Student Life Marketing department within the Division of Student Life (OVSPL). In collaboration with the Student Life Marketing team, the Social Media Specialist works to develop and implement strategy for OVSPL social media channels, creates brand-consistent, strategic, compelling, and creative social media content. This position serves as a social media consultant and resource for colleagues across the division of Student Life. This position manages student interns which consists of reviewing work, critique projects, and ensure a consistently high standard of quality and timely output. Responsible for taking social media strategy planning from conception to completion. Manages client social media requests on a day-to-day basis. Works directly with staff and student employees to facilitate quality creative social media content for the division of Student Life and its departments. Serves as key contact regarding social media for the Marketing team and division. Assists with web, design, photography, and workflow.

 

This position is currently hybrid with a blend of remote and onsite work. 


Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, English, journalism, advertising, or related field.
  • Three years of professional work experience in digital marketing, editorial or social media role.
  • Must be able to quickly adapt to changing trends in social media. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to accomplish work that communicates/markets effectively. 
  • Possess strong presentation skills to communicate ideas to campus colleagues.
  • Ability to problem solve using keen instincts and organizational experience. 
  • Strong people skills that provide clear creative direction. 
  • Experience using Hootsuite or another social media planning and listening platform.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of social media platforms and related social media best practices. 
  • Working knowledge of website content management systems as well as design software. 
  • Commitment to providing valuable and educational opportunities for student intern staff.
  • Attention to detail as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Customer service orientation with a "can-do" attitude 
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds utilizing Student Life principles and pledges (SLISU) and teamwork in daily work activity.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the supervision of student interns or others.
