JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Student Affairs Communications and Marketing is looking for a creative and driven professional to join their team as a Social Media Specialist.

Student Affairs is a dynamic division of over 25 unique units that work to support students with a focus on co-curricular experiences. Our units focus on student health and wellness, involvement and student life, community and belonging, leadership and success, and support and safety. Our staff works to support student life by providing crucial programming and services that allow students to thrive at Penn State.

The social media specialist is charged with developing strategy and managing all central Student Affairs social media accounts, including Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. This professional will use analytics and market data to inform decisions and develop a dynamic, content-focused strategy that highlights the students and resources available on campus. The role also includes planning and developing dynamic content that includes strong photography and videography. A basic understanding of photo composition and video production is ideal. This role also provides key support, training, and guidance for unit-focused social media accounts and staff who manage each. This includes monthly meetings and reviews, strategy sessions, and training that informs colleagues about trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create short- and long-term strategy for Student Affairs’ social channels

  • Monitor and respond to social conversations and comments

  • Analyze content and campaigns and adjust strategy as necessary

  • Research social trends and advise on new social media platforms and features

  • Work with other staff to conceptualize campaigns and develop content to engage and inform students 

  • Oversee student staff to assist with content curation and scheduling

  • Liaise with Student Affairs departments to guide their social content and strategy

  • Liaise with Penn State Strategic Communications to collaborate on social campaigns and share content

  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with the Communications and Marketing team and external partners

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and 2+ years of experience in a related field

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
