JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Social Media Manager

The Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking an experienced, creative, and analytical social media manager to join our talented team of professionals in the Office of Marketing and Communications. This new position will play a key role in developing and executing a comprehensive social media strategy that advances college reputation, engagement, and targeted growth in support of our three-pronged mission of teaching, research, and extension.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, highly organized, and passionate about leveraging social media to meet objectives. Success hinges on the ability to understand and set priorities, analyze and communicate actionable data, provide thought leadership on social media trends, develop and influence compelling content, build strong relationships with teams and stakeholders, operate with flexibility, and work both independently and among various groups. Responsibilities include:

• Social Media Marketing Strategy — Develop and define a targeted, strategic social media approach for the College of Agricultural Sciences channels including those supporting the College's key focus areas of teaching, research, and Extension. Identify and manage goals for the College social media channels. Leverage data, market research, and industry trends to make informed decisions that support strategic approach. Build and develop audiences across social channels.

• Social Media Channel Management — Manage and oversee the success of all identified social media channels for the College of Agricultural Sciences, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. Post on channels using best practices. Monitor feedback and interact with followers and connect with content experts for follow up as needed. Develop and manage content calendars per channel to ensure optimal posting schedule is adhered to. Ensure indirectly managed channels within the College are following best practices.

• Social Media Marketing Content Development — Create posts and campaigns per social channels that align with identified goals and best practices. Develop content calendars. Optimize posts to ensure proper visibility.

• Social Media Reporting and Analysis — Create reports per social channels managed, and in some cases indirectly managed, to monitor social media channel success and campaign effectiveness. Analyze data and make recommendations for continued improvement.

• Social Media Client Management — Work with cross-functional teams to develop and refine content calendars. Educate clients, teams and social media coordinators on best practices to ensure everyone is current and following the strategic social media approach as defined for the College. Maintain regular contact with clients, teams and social media coordinators to provide ongoing updates on success of social channels and targeted campaigns.

• Social Media Campaign Budget Management — Build and manage paid post/ad campaigns through identified social media channels. Monitor spend to ensure effective paid campaign execution. Work with internal team to set-up budgets per campaign.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will possess strong writing and presentation skills, excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, a dedication to quality and client service, and an enduring appreciation for diverse audiences that is reflected in content selection for all forms of communication. The position requires a creative individual with initiative, excellent judgment, and the ability to manage complex projects to successful completion in a timely manner, in coordination with multiple offices and individuals. This position has the potential to work fully remotely.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
