Job Summary
Eastern Washington University is seeking a Social Media Manager. This position brings an audience-first approach to executing the content strategy, requirements, and deliverables that support EWU’s branded social and digital media platforms.
  • Through analysis, writing/editing, posting, monitoring and responding to audience questions and concerns, this position achieves business goals by maximizing the impact of stories and announcements posted online. The manager develops and maintains a content strategy for the EWU brand, including the creation of targeted and differentiated, user-centric narratives, content journeys (including calls-to-action), and corresponding deliverable plans that bring those narratives to life.
  • The ideal candidate will have two or more years of professional experience working with web and social media content on behalf of a major brand (preferably in the higher education or non-profit sector). The hired candidate will excel in communication, organization and creativity, with strong editing and writing capabilities as well as possess a keen ability to juggle multiple tasks, and a passion for storytelling.

Conditions of Employment

The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, design, communications, public relations, technical writing or related field
  • Two or more years working with content for web and social media platforms
  • Demonstrated skill with various social media platforms, including examples of data-informed decision making
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting universal accessibility, cultural competency and diversity
  • Demonstrated content writing, editing and distribution skills, with an emphasis on goal planning, measurement, optimization and syndication
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, or our students, staff, faculty and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skill in gathering, synthesizing, and analyzing internal and external research into sound content analyses and recommendations
  • Effective project management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative partner, as well as a thought leader and facilitator
  • Strong understanding of AP Style
  • Professional experience working in higher education, non-profit or public sectors

    Digital Content Strategy, Writing, Editing and Distribution
    • Create and curate useful, accessible content specifically intended for online publication based on strategic university goals and initiatives (primarily recruitment, retention and fundraising)
    • Administer, monitor and moderate various social media channels according to the EWU Social Media Policy
    • Assist in the production and integration of digital advertising campaigns
    • Create and maintain the university’s social media content strategy that shares a similar voice, tone, style and key messaging concepts with the university’s web content strategy
    • Execute SEO goals in the production, tagging, classifying, optimization and accessibility of content for the web
    • Monitor a story dashboard on a weekly basis and make recommendations to the team for optimizations, extending or ending content based on performance
    • Develop, write, proofread, edit and fact-check content for the web, primarily social media channels but occasionally other digital properties like websites, marketing campaign assets, eblasts and newsletters
    • May supervise lower-level staff and/or students in the fields of social media and digital content writing and distribution
