The Social Media Assistant will help tell the story of Theatre & Film at BGSU through engaging, student-centered content and help raise the visibility of the department across social media.
The department plans to employ student assistants representing both the Theatre and Film programs. Students will work collaboratively to provide social media and promotional coverage across the department, with particular awareness of activities and events within their respective program areas.

Essential Functions- Plan, create, and publish social media content, including photos, short-form videos, graphics, stories, reels, and written posts, across department platforms.
- Attend selected department productions, screenings, rehearsals, workshops, guest artist visits, student events, and other activities to capture photos and video for social media.
- Highlight student, faculty, staff, and alumni accomplishments and activities.
- Promote upcoming productions, auditions, screenings, events, student organization activities, and other department opportunities.
- Work from the department's master calendar to identify content and promotional opportunities and coordinate event coverage.
- Collaborate with the other Theatre & Film Social Media Assistant to provide balanced coverage across the Theatre and Film programs.
- Maintain a consistent content calendar and posting schedule in coordination with the Senior Administrative Assistant.
- Create or adapt promotional graphics using Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, or similar tools.
- Assist with distributing posters and other promotional materials for department productions and events around campus.
- Develop creative ideas for increasing student engagement and showcasing the Theatre & Film student experience.
- Follow BGSU, College of Arts & Sciences, and department social media, branding, accessibility, and communication guidelines.
- Perform other related social media and promotional duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Minimum Qualifications- Currently enrolled BGSU undergraduate student in good academic standing.
- MUST be a Major in Theatre or Film
- Strong interest in social media, digital content creation, photography, videography, theatre, film, marketing, or related areas.
- Basic skill in creating social media content - video, stories, posts, graphics, or similar content - or a strong willingness to learn.
- Basic photo/video editing or graphic design skills using Canva, CapCut, Adobe Express, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Reliable, organized, and able to work independently with appropriate supervision.
- Comfortable interacting with fellow students, faculty, staff, and guests while representing the department.
- Able to exercise good judgment with public-facing and behind-the-scenes content.
Additional Information- Hours are flexible around the student's class schedule.
- Some evening and weekend attendance will be required to capture content at department productions and events.
- Students are not expected to attend every department event. Event coverage will be planned in advance based on department priorities, the master calendar, and student availability.
- The Social Media Assistant reports directly to the Senior Administrative Assistant for Theatre & Film.
- This is a Department of Theatre & Film student employment position and is separate from the College of Arts & Sciences
