Position Summary
Governors State University is seeking to hire a Social Media and Brand Coordinator to report to Project Manager in the Office of Marketing and Communications to develop initiatives and increase, integrate, and sustain brand awareness across digital, web, and print platforms. Using the Strategic Communications Plan, the Coordinator will create content in line with objectives to improve reputation, relationships, and revenue both internally and externally. The Coordinator will work closely with on-campus departments such as the Center for Student Engagement and Intercultural Programming, Housing and Auxiliary Services, Digital Learning and Media Design, and Admissions to create a strong external brand across all digital, print, and media channels, as well as to promote internal pride among students, faculty, and staff through targeted messaging.
Essential Responsibilities
20% Manage and coordinate university-wide social media content, providing constructive feedback for social media management across the university.
20% Consult, implement, and collaborate with the management of GSU social media strategy.
10% Measure the analytics of social media, digital, and advertising. 10% Evaluate and report on the metrics of users’ journey across platforms.
10% Work in multidisciplinary team with writers, designers, and photographers to create engaging social media content and facilitate production.
10% Assist with promotion of major university events such as commencement, convocation, homecoming etc. and write weekly Events @ GovState newsletter.
10% Manage advocate team of students, who will create student-focused content, showcasing the student experience.
5% Stay up-to-date with latest social media and digital best practices and technologies, especially in higher education.
5% All other duties assigned.
Starting Salary: $38,532.00.
(This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).

Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED: COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS, WHICH INCLUDES THE EARNED DEGREE AND CONFERRED DATE MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS POSITION (See “Special instructions to applicants” section below).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years (24 months) of experience writing for a newspaper, magazine, trade publication, news organization or writing in a public relations, research, or business communications environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Desired Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing, Communications, or English. Progressive professional responsibility working in advertising or marketing. Experience generating and scheduling social media content. Experience with brand development, management, and maintenance. Experience managing large and small-scale projects. Meticulous copy-editing skills. Fluent in Spanish is a plus
