Position Summary/Description:


The Division of Global Women's Health at UNC-CH is seeking to hire a Social/Clinical Research Specialist to support research activities aimed at improving pregnancy outcomes for women and infants around the world. The Research Specialist will work on projects that capture prenatal images on commercial ultrasound and various other FDA approved devices. Data collected will be used by the ultrasound machine learning team to develop artificial intelligence (AI) or deep learning tools to improve patient monitoring and clinical care.
The Research Specialist will work under the supervision of the Director of Perinatal Research and Research Project Manager to coordinate various industry and government funded projects in Chapel Hill, NC. This position will assist in revising standard operating procedures (SOPs), modification of collection methodology, assessing needs of the project and making changes as need. In addition, they will help to generate supporting documents for IRB submissions, train other research staff members (e.g., Research Assistants and Research Sonographers) on the study protocol and procedures, monitor accrual and retention of research participants, analyze data for accuracy, help in preparing reports and communication/ liaison between project manager and research assistants. In addition to research specialist roles, this position will occasionally need to able to fill in for research assistant in the projects and recruit and obtain consent from patients for research participation, and perform novice user prenatal ultrasounds for research purposes, and collect and process blood and urine specimens. The Research Specialist must be able to multitask and learn new procedures according to the protocol and SOPs.
A substantial, four-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been awarded to the Division of Global Health in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The purpose of this grant is to collect additional ultrasound data in order to improve current machine learning models and to create additional models for various diagnoses.
An essential part of this position working under the supervision of the Director of Perinatal Research and Research Project Manager to coordinate various industry and government funded projects in Chapel Hill, NC. Research participants recruited from obstetric clinics will be scanned by a certified OB/GYN Research Sonographer and novice user. The Research Specialist will coordinate day-to-day research activities at the Chapel Hill site.

Education and Experience:


Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
