Position Summary
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting for a full time Social/Clinical Research Assistant – Journey level. This position will be responsible for implementing and assisting with research studies alongside faculty in the Psychiatry Department. The position will be directly involved in several research studies including interventional psychiatry clinical trials and a longitudinal study of mental health and cognitive outcomes during kidney transplantation. Activities will include recruiting, screening, and consenting potential patients for research studies; coordinating study visits; administering and collecting patient surveys and structured clinical interviews; gathering research study data; tracking and follow-up of patients; arranging study payments; building and maintaining databases; gathering and processing laboratory samples; working with the IRB; maintaining research-related documents for Sponsors and Contractors, and creating figures and graphs for presentations. The position will assist with other research- related tasks as needed. Studies will take place at UNC Hospital and affiliated outpatient clinics.
Other duties may include:
* electronic medical record screenings and chart abstractions
* data entry, data quality checks, and assisting with data cleaning and quality assurance
* assisting with the creating of study materials
* generating new data and information
* editing and formatting reports and manuscripts
* project administrative duties including meeting scheduling and preparation, travel coordination, and compensation for study subjects, and other tasks as needed
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Knowledge of clinical research principles, study design, and methods of data collection. 
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects. 
  • Ability to follow guidelines for assessing compliance with study protocol. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team-building skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software quickly. 
  • Professionalism, dependability, attention to detail, and integrity are a must as position will be interacting with and reporting to various professionals throughout the department and health care system.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with IRB submissions and EPIC medical record system preferred.
