The Social Climate Strategist serves as an important team member within ODECE. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Climate and Community Engagement, the position is responsible for collaborating with division leaders, department directors, students, faculty, and staff to facilitate activities designed to educate and motivate members of the University community. In addition, the position is responsible for promoting inclusive excellence as a core value to be collectively practiced in the University. A priority focus is providing ongoing project management for the campus diversity strategic planning process. This position will provide structure in the areas of strategic development, implementation, and metrics in an effort to align the direction set forth by the Diversity, Inclusion and Academic Excellence Plan (DIAEP) with the University’s mission.
The position works with various units in ODECE, Student Affairs, Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance, CU Student Government, Faculty Affairs, and Strategic Relations and helps to manage and coordinate efforts across units in fulfillment of this mission .
What your key responsibilities will be:
Project Management of Social Climate Enhancement Efforts
Facilitate the strategic planning process for the Diversity, Inclusion and Academic Excellence Plan (DIAEP). Serve as a resource and provide consultation for all university constituent bodies, strategic planning working groups; coordinate follow-up efforts; identify specific needs of constituent groups; monitor progress in the implementation and evaluation phases; and employ accountability measures to track progress towards achieving goals.
Effective Communication Development
Develop and implement communication strategies and methods to convey progress towards implementation of the Diversity, Inclusion, and Academic Excellence Plan. Serve as a liaison with University Communications contributing expertise on the content, tone, mode and timeliness of institutional communications pertaining to the social campus climate. Coordinate dialogue across appropriate entities on how to approach issues as they arise, ensure the adequate administration of communication activities including timely updates of website for all social climate enhancement initiatives.
Student Success Support Activities
In support of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Learning and Student Success, contribute to divisional efforts facilitating the academic and personal success of specific cohorts of student scholar groups. Take ownership of special meetings, events and dinners for CU LEAD Alliance students, ASSET/DACA students, and special donor funded scholarships (e.g. Korczak RAP, Rothberg, Trailblazer, etc.). Oversee scholar cohort progression, and provide “high touch” follow-up to students and donors. Assist with various aspects of the ODECE scholarship award process (e.g. CU LEAD, PCDP, etc.) including assisting with proposal writing for donor funding.
Social Climate Education and Cross-Cultural Interaction
Coordinate activities aimed at promoting cross-cultural interaction and intercultural understanding with students, faculty, and staff, including numerous and diverse subgroups. Build partnerships and cultivate collaborative networks between campus units, and individual faculty and staff. Serve as a representative of ODECE when addressing incidents disruptive to the campus social climate that require an institutionally coordinated response involving offices such as Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs, CU Student Government, Institutional Equity and Compliance, University Communications, and Campus Police.
Other Duties as Assigned
Additional duties include supporting various other activities such as elements of the Annual Diversity Summit, and also serving as consultant to staff, faculty and administrators on a broad range of strategies, opportunities and initiatives that will further diversity and inclusion within the university community.

The salary range for this position starts at $70,000.

What we require:
5 years’ experience in higher education with demonstrated success implementing diversity initiatives and understanding of the implications of diversity and inclusion in the work place (e.g. teaching, program design, etc.).
Familiarity and experience working with social climate survey data and analysis.
What you will need:
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills, oral and written; effective listening skills.
Adept in ability to articulate an understanding of the issues and dynamics of difference.
Experience with public relations and organizational communications; proficient in designing and applying multiple forms of media: electronic, web, social networking.
Ability to assess needs and articulate end goal outcomes, develop and present programs and/or workshops; ability to work collaboratively; strong organizational and problem solving skills.
Strong relationship/community-building skills; demonstrated competencies for trust-building; further demonstrated capacity to navigate difficult conversations, facilitate communication, and bridge relations between audiences who typically do not interact with each other.
What we’d like you to have:
Broad experience in the development of educational, cultural, and social programs designed to improve the quality of educational and social environment within a large organization or educational setting, including experience with equity, multicultural education, and/or civil rights matters.
Experience demonstrating commitment to goals for equity and inclusion, community well-being and positive community-building.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
