Position Description | The primary purpose of this position is to assist with active research studies in the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. This will include clinical trials for eating disorders and large-scale genetics studies. Duties include participant recruitment, retention, screening and scheduling, phlebotomy, dispensing study medications, conducting research study visits, the collection of physical data including height, weight, and blood pressure, data collection and management, IRB and ethics regulation, preliminary literature searches and summaries, and maintenance of documentation related to clinical trials. The research assistant will ensure correct storage of the biosamples (saliva and blood), and conduct quality control of behavioral data. The research assistant will also supervise undergraduate research assistants and summer interns. These responsibilities require frequent contact with study participants and UNC faculty and staff. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities | Experience with Microsoft Office. Ability to work early mornings, nights and weekends. Valid driver’s license to complete home-based study visits. |
Preferred Qualifications | Prior experience working on eating disorder research studies and experience interacting with individuals with mental illness are preferred. Specific experience working on clinical trials desirable. Phlebotomy trained and vital signs certification a plus. Experience in clinical research with human subjects and the ability to work well independently and with others in a team setting. The ability to communicate complex study information to potential research subjects. Experience with IRB submissions, obtaining informed consent, Qualtrics and RedCap. |
