Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Position Summary
The research assistant will assist with all duties related to data collection for a complex, NIH-funded study to characterize the relationship between EHR information overload on the quality of care by measuring prescribing providers’ (physicians and advanced practice providers) performance, information seeking load, information processing load using real-time patient data in institutional EHRs in a laboratory setting.
The research assistant will be responsible for assisting the program manager with participant data collection across all four sites. Each session will take approximately one hour. The research assistant will be responsible for traveling to the sites, maintaining a knowledge of the equipment, helping with all set up/take down, taking notes and scoring participant sessions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Be available to travel to other sites.
Must have prior research experience.
Must have at least basic knowledge of research regulations and best practices.
Must have demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities, attend to large amounts of research data, and identify and solve potential problems independently throughout the data collection.
The position requires significant attention to detail, organization, and strong time management skills.
Must be able to integrate into clinical environments, recognize needs, and adapt as needed to achieve goals.
Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and word, confident of computer skills and able to learn additional software programs / how to set up eye tracking hardware.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of clinical terminology.
Experience with consenting and data collection for a large study.
Experience with eye tracking devices (e.g., Tobii).
Experience collecting and scoring data.
Experience using Electronic Health Record Systems.
