Department Description | The mission of the Department of Neurology in the School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill is to serve all of the people of North Carolina, the southeast and the nation as center for excellence in education, research scholarship and creative endeavor in the care of patients with disease of the nervous system. In order to fulfill this mission, the department must accomplish the following: • Acquire, discover, preserve, synthesize and transmit knowledge about disease of the nervous system. • Provide high quality undergraduate medical student instruction, graduate and post-graduate programs in the basic and clinical aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorder in adults and children. • Extend the neurological patient cares services and other educational and research resources of the department to the citizens of North Carolina to enhance the quality of life for all people in the state. |

Position Description | This is a time-limited position with an estimated duration of two-years. This position will serve as a Social/Clinical Research Assistant within the School of Medicine, Department of Neurology. This position will work within the Neurosciences Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) assisting with the conduction of clinical research. The Social/Clinical Research Assistant assists and supports the conduct of research, including investigator-initiated projects, Federally funded research and participation in industry-sponsored experimental therapeutic trials for the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, study coordination; the assessment of research subjects; IRB submissions, modifications and regulatory maintenance; communication with internal and external clinical and research offices; data management and entry; and maintaining clinical trial compliance. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities | The candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with clinical investigators, laboratory personnel, nurses, study contract research organizations and study sponsors, Institutional Review Board, and support staff. The candidate must have a working knowledge of medical terminology, techniques and methodologies used in developing, coordinating and managing clinical research projects. In addition, the candidate must be able to work independently and multitask while being efficient with minimal supervision. Must be able to prioritize tasks, work under deadline pressure, maintain organization, and be able to solve highly complex problems with relevant research experience. |
Preferred Qualifications | Preferred candidate will have: (1) a bachelor’s degree in a related area e.g. Psychology, Biology, Social Work, Nursing; 2) have at least 2-years relevant research experience in clinical research activities; and 3) direct experience working with Institutional Review Boards at a large University. |
