Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF ONE YEAR.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide research support to the Brain and Early Experience (BEE) Study which is directed by Dr. Cathi Propper. The BEE Study investigative team examines the mechanisms by which economic factors may influence neurodevelopment in utero and through infancy and early childhood. Findings derived from the study will inform early intervention and prevention efforts to promote children’s learning ability and their opportunities for socio-emotional and academic success.
The primary function of this position is to work with Dr. Propper and her research team to provide support to assigned research activities with a primary focus on participant recruitment/retention, data collection in various settings, and data processing for the parent BEE Study and its affiliated projects.
Primary areas of responsibility are:
* Facilitating and conducting data collection with participant families and children which may include visits on evenings and weekends. This will include setting up appointment slots with the study team, emailing participant families to schedule appointment(s), and supporting the preparation for and completion of the visit.
* Data entry, management, and preliminary analysis, as directed by Dr. Propper or the Project Manager(s). This may include managing and tracking data, e.g., REDCap and data base entry (training will be provided to the RA).
* Planning meetings, preparation of research materials, training, and support with reporting needs. Regular meetings and updates with the PI and research team to report progress and troubleshoot potential issues.
* The Research Assistant may be listed as co-author for project conference presentations. Contingent on PI approval, the Research Assistant also may utilize data from the BEE Study and affiliated projects for an independent research project and submit results for conference presentations.
* Regular quality control checks on data collected.
* Monitoring the progress of data collection.
* Updating tracking databases (on REDCap and TEAMs).
* Communicating with Investigators and other Senior Staff regarding data collection progress and/or potential problems.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Experience within a social science research environment and with human subjects is essential, particularly with infants, children, and families.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with initiative.
- Must demonstrate a detail-oriented workstyle.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Teams, Qualtrics, and REDCap.
- Experience overseeing data collection activities.
- Demonstrated ability to keep data organized and to prepare data for analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to summarize collected data.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out data collection according to developed protocols.
- Experience summarizing data collection findings.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Experience obtaining informed consent.
- Demonstrated proficiency with interviewing in a social science research setting preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency collecting research data in various settings such as the lab (e.g., neuroimaging) or with developmental data such as executive functioning and/or behavioral assessments.
