Summary of Duties:

The SNAP-Ed Statewide Retail Access Extension Coordinator Senior is responsible for development and implementation of policy, systems and environmental approaches to improving access to healthy foods among low-income populations. This includes collaborating with local, regional and statewide SNAP-Ed programs and partners to conduct needs assessments; mapping, identifying gaps in options for using SNAP benefits in retail settings; supporting retail partnerships and implementation of successful strategies to improve access to healthy foods in retail settings; serving as a representative on the statewide Fruit and Vegetable Incentive Program Community of Practice; and communicating with local, regional and statewide policymakers. This position works closely with other Extension staff, SNAP-Ed staff, and community partners to ensure that activities meet community needs and are appropriate within FNS guidance for SNAP-Ed programs.
This is a temporary position expected to end on September 30, 2023. Renewal is dependent on satisfactory performance and annual background check, the need for Extension to complete the project and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three (3) years of related program experience. A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Related program experience includes public health, nutrition, education, urban or regional planning, community development.

  • Ability to travel regionally, statewide, and occasionally out of state.

  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional nights and weekends.

  • While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090) and possess a valid driver's license

  • Employment is contingent upon passing a WSU background screening.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lived experience, or experience working with diverse communities using a strengths-based approach, showing sensitivity to those who experience poverty, racism, marginalization, and trauma.

  • Strong commitment to social and environmental justice and working toward improving food and social systems.

  • Experience assessing community needs and evaluating community projects.

  • Proficiency with computer software applications such as ARC GIS, email and Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, especially in the development of innovative projects.

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully as a team member.

Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.
