Full Job Description:

Professor Genna Smith is hiring one to two research assistants (RAs) during the Spring 2024 semester. The RAs will work directly with Professor Smith to create a low-cost device capable of measuring photosynthetic potential of phytoplankton. RA duties will include (1) reading literature on photosynthetic potential measurements and discussing relevant material with Professor Smith, (2) designing and constructing a device for low-resolution measurements of photosynthetic potential, (3) iterating on the device design to create a consistently reproducible, higher resolution device. There will be opportunities for practicing writing up results for a scientific publication.

Qualifications :

  • Interest in electronic sensor measurements and fabrication, and applying those skills for an environmental science application
  • Coursework in introductory electronics and sensors
  • Strong writing and communication skills Attention to detail in the laboratory environment
  • Experience using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or equivalent preferred

Compensation: $18.07/hr
