General Summary: 

The Internship Placement Manager is a full-time position within the Department of Counseling and School Psychology (CSP), College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The Department of Counseling and School Psychology provides a dynamic environment for faculty, staff, and students to engage in teaching and learning in areas related to equity issues, systems-level change, LGBTQ health and wellness, social justice, transnational, human rights, and global perspectives.

The manager will primarily provide support for identifying internship opportunities and placements for students majoring in Sport Leadership and Administration (SLA), with additional field placement support for students in CSP, including assisting with managing student and organizational internship records, teaching and course planning for field placement/internship courses, and relationship building with internal and external sport and other organizations, such as non-profit mental health organizations and schools. The manager will also assist with recruitment, admissions, field placement, and accreditation. The manager will teach up to two to three field placement/internship courses in SLA per year, providing supervision to undergraduate students in the Sport Leadership and Administration program.

The mission of the Sport Leadership and Administration program is to cultivate equity-minded, character driven, and transformational leaders who will positively improve society through sport. The program prepares students for careers with the sport industry with the goal of transforming and improving organizations and communities where racial equity, equality, and justice are enacted. Examples of Duties: 


    • Work with the program director of the Sport Leadership and Administration program, the department chair, all program faculty and staff, to facilitate and coordinate deep partnerships with organizations in the sport industry and other organizations.
    • Support coordination with the Sport Leadership and Administration Advisory Board
    • Manage sport organization and internship placement databases.
    • Assist students with locating and securing internship positions.
    • Correspond with the Office of Career Services and Internships and Sport Leadership and Administration Advisory Board to identify professional development opportunities for students.
    • Track each student’s internship hours and placement sites.
    • Manage evaluation tools for students’ internship experiences, including mid-term and final field supervisor evaluations and student intern evaluations.
    • Meet and correspond with students prior to, during, and after their internship placements to provide support for their success and growth in their internships.
    • Develop and update communication tools for students and field supervisors.
    • Coordinate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to ensure consistency of efforts across all field placements within CEHD.
    • Work with current and prospective site supervisors to ensure off-site training opportunities align with UMass Boston’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    • Apply equity-minded pedagogical practices in teaching up to two to three field placement/internship courses per year.
    • Attend relevant meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

A Master’s degree in a sport related area and/or professional work experience in the sport industry is required. Knowledge of the sport leadership and administration is preferred.

This is an exempt union position.

This position will hold teaching responsibilities which will be paid separately and in addition to the annual salary, based on a per course rate.
