Brief Summary of Work for this Position
This is a part-time role (20 hr/week) will be responsible for working with the Principal Investigator and collaborators to meet grant deliverables and for overall project coordination, execution and completion. They will perform various microbial R&D tests in relation to ongoing grants. They will also contribute to method optimization and testing to further innovation and productivity. In addition, they will actively train and mentor other laboratory personnel on high-throughput automation, methodologies, and assays. The hire will also assist in communicating updates to research partners to facilitate the deployment of probiotic treatments for diseased corals. Specific duties are listed below:
 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a high-throughput probiotic discovery platform in support of ongoing probiotic discovery efforts
  • Perform sample processing and DNA extraction to characterize probiotic candidates
  • Communicate results to research partners in written technical reports and oral presentations
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned to support laboratory operations

 
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a related science and three years of laboratory experience in the area of research assigned. Work requires hands on experience in the specific area of work assigned.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Master’s degree in Biology, Marine Biology, Microbiology, or closely related field.
