Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Instructors will be teaching classes in composition, literature and reading, mathematics, laboratory science, and foreign language. All instructors are responsible to the Director for their performance as staff members. Their responsibilities extend to the advisement of students, skill instruction, and related curricular activities, orientation, training, and supervision of student tutor/counselors and committee, laboratory, and workshop sessions; creative and extra-curricular activities as these are indicated in the overall Upward Bound Program. They will participate cooperatively with other members of the Special Programs staff in the selection of evaluative instruments and procedures, as well as the establishment of controls. Instructors will also administer pre and post-assessments to participants in order to determine areas for improvement and to track growth (or mastery); record and track the progress of each participant using an online grading system; utilize GradPoint when delivering instruction and use the program to strengthen areas for improvement and utilize research-proven strategies to deliver instruction. The positions are part-time for the (AY and SY).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in math, english, science, computer science, or education
Must hold a current teaching certificate
Must be familiar with the needs of low-income students
Must have effective interpersonal skills
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference given to applicants who have at least one year of teaching
experience
