Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas (UA Cossatot) began in DeQueen, Arkansas in 1975 as an Arkansas Vocational-Technical School, designed to provide relevant workforce training for four counties in southwest Arkansas. Summary of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the UA Cossatot Chancellor and the FRIENDS Foundation, the UA Cossatot Economic Development Director duties include acting as a liaison between UA Cossatot and the local community to offer education, insight and college assistance in developing economic development goals and plans, in order to provide enhanced opportunities for UA Cossatot students and graduates. This position also works closely with UA Cossatot’s Workforce Department and the FRIENDS Foundation to identify and promote programs that advance opportunities for present and future UA Cossatot students and graduates. The individual in this position may also perform grant funded activities benefiting economic development in Sevier County.

Qualifications:

  • A strong communicator who expresses him or herself well and builds positive working relationships with other staff members, partners, consultants, funders and community members.
  • A solid background in leadership, management, budget oversight and supervisory experience
  • Must have demonstrated experience successfully completing time-sensitive and/or high-profile projects through collaboration, consensus and creativity.
  • A goal-oriented thinker who can set clear priorities among multiple tasks and stay focused on project benchmarks and deadlines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of economic and community development issues, principles and techniques, including state and federal policies and programs, capital improvements programming, applicable regulations and regulatory devices, associated data sources and information systems.


Additional Information:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related economic development or business field and five years substantial experience in planning, economic and/or community development, business or related field OR equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience managing projects and people in a nonprofit, public agency or private company.
  • Direct experience developing close working relationships with governmental groups at the local, state and federal level, and constituents/stakeholders which might include elected officials, board of directors, employees and other business and community support organizations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and adequate liability auto insurance coverage
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times
  • Prefer membership in Rotary and Lions Clubs in Sevier County
  • Must reside in Sevier County

Salary Information:


$53,000 annual salary; plus an excellent benefits package
