Marquette University Department of University Facilities Planning & Management provides support to the university community through the maintenance and management of all university facilities and grounds as well as planning and execution of capital projects. Our mission is to provide a safe, clean, healthy, comfortable environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus. The Service Manager is responsible for directing and administering FP&M personnel in designated locations and disciplines within University facilities. Service Managers supervise work activities according to established standards using appropriate equipment, materials and personnel. They are responsible for primary management of particular trades or shop disciplines, must have a broad and diverse knowledge of building components and systems, and support and facilitate work of diverse groups and individuals throughout the Department of FP&M.
Essential functions include performing duties associated with an administrative, professional or managerial position and functions typically associated with a designated trade to include routine administrative responsibilities. An ability to respond to emergency situations during non-scheduled hours required; specific technical expertise in area of primary responsibility is required. Promoting team concepts in service delivery among and between individuals and service groups, and the ability to operate University vehicles is required. This position is responsible for promoting the initiatives and philosophy as expressed in the Mission Statements of the University, the Department of Facilities Planning & Management, and the individual work unit.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide a high level of customer service to the University. Exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to represent the department well, and interact positively with individuals on campus for whom services are provided.
2. Manages the mechanical maintenance functions of designated maintenance mechanics, preventive maintenance mechanics I & II, plumbing technicians, electronics technicians, and electrician. Utilize and understand electrical measuring devices, ability to read blueprints and assist in the investigation of operational problems with mechanics and contractors. Directs technical service and routine maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, kitchen equipment, lighting, and other mechanical/electrical components and systems.
3. Direct trade or shop activities within University buildings and on University grounds.
4. Provide ongoing training for new and/or existing employees to ensure basic functional capability and expand skill levels and scope.
5. Interview, participate in hiring, discipline and assign employees and maintain associated personnel and time records.
6. Evaluate the performance of employees on a regular routine schedule.
7. Make quality control inspections ensuring high quality Facilities Services performance.
8. Initiate, supervise and coordinate work of outside contractors.
9. Responsible for rotating on-call emergency coverage for weekends.
10. Meet with campus departments to determine needs and services.
11. Develop innovative approaches and techniques to expand the effectiveness of labor resources and the efficient use of supply resources.
12. Schedule routine work assignments and coordinates project work utilizing most efficient use of personnel.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• High school diploma with technical school degree or advanced education and training in an associated trade

• Technical expertise of ten years in a specific skill area is required. Experience working in a large service organization desired
• A demonstrated history of extensive leadership skills is required.

• Physical requirements include frequent lifting of 0-50 lbs and occasional lifting of 51-100 lbs, constantly walking 6-8 hours/day, occasionally standing, twisting, and bending 1-3 hours/day.
