Position Summary
The Department of Public Safety at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Sergeant position.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Education
Must have a High School Diploma and at least 60 hours of college.
Minimum Required Experience
Must have at least three (3) years in law enforcement experience.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications
Must have current police certification from the State of Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training (BLEOST).
Qualifications
Must not have any serious disciplinary actions on file.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must display the ability to work with all officers and the ability to deal objectively with supervisors and subordinate personnel.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership for subordinate personnel on the shift.
  • Ensures the compliance of policies and procedures by designated personnel.
  • Assist in directing and evaluating job performance of subordinate personnel and maintaining documentation of performance appraisals.
  • Review and approve incident reports of subordinate personnel.
  • Protection of life and property through enforcement of state laws and University policies and procedures.
  • The assignment, inspection, and proper care of all equipment assigned to subordinate personnel.
  • Responsible for all duties assigned by the Lieutenant, Captain and above.
  • Responsible for the shift in the absence of the Lieutenant.
  • May be required to work shifts outside of regular shift assignments when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
