The Enterprise Technology (ET) Development team at ASU is seeking a motivated individual to join our high-performing team. The Senior Web Platforms Engineer - Frontend contributes to furthering ASU's global engagement by leveraging their expertise to help build, maintain and modernize the university's web presence and contribute to the web platforms development efforts within the university. 

This role will work closely and collaboratively with stakeholders and UX teams to design, architect, develop, enhance and maintain web platforms and products that support and promote web standards used across the university with a focus on frontend development and design systems based in React and Bootstrap, interfacing with our CMS platforms.

$70,905 - $124,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Develops frontend components and applications and integrates them with build processes and larger systems within web applications and platforms.
  • Applies expertise in Frontend / React development and exhibits growing experience in at least one of
    • Backend development
    • Full stack development
  • Develops applications that interact and integrate with web services.
  • Applies knowledge of standards-based web development best practices and promotes use in platform development efforts.
  • Maintains and applies technical skills.
  • Stays abreast of and applies web application accessibility best practices and standards. Promotes accessibility practices on teams and educates others in their use.
  • Meets deadlines and clearly communicates and manages expectations. Assists in identifying and resolving issues blocking delivery.
  • Works in collaboration with others within Engineering to identify expertise, gather knowledge, resolve issues, create partnerships and foster new opportunities.
  • Collaborates with product and service teams and others within the university web community.
  • Effectively communicates with team members, clients and stakeholders.
  • Assists in leading a team of developers and contributes to their technical growth.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, 3-years prior experience developing software in an academic environment; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of web based application development, including front-end React development, experience with web services and integrations and some knowledge of back-end development. Preference will be given to those able to demonstrate knowledge and experience with:

  • Web platforms.
  • Web application development using modern Javascript and/or React, and PHP
  • Leadership, team building, partnership development skills.
  • Mobile and/or responsive web design
  • Ability to problem solve and seek win-win outcomes.
  • Familiarity with Agile development
  • Web accessibility best practices for WCAG 2.1 compliance
  • HTML5, CSS3
  • Web service integrations and working with service APIs
  • Git and GitHub, especially working with multiple branches
  • JIRA or similar ticketing system
  • Test Driven Development
  • Familiarity with CMS (Drupal or Wordpress) development
  • Familiarity with Cloud service providers such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
  • Databases and SQL
  • Performance and scalability
  • Effective communication with stakeholders and end-users
  • Ability to manage several projects at once
  • Current on secure web programming techniques
  • Ability to model empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence
