Position Function
Direct and produce video media from pre-production through post-production using techniques applied through cameras, audio, lighting, editing, animated graphics, special effects and scriptwriting that support the goals, objectives, and brand of Ball State University. Serve as consultant, art director, liaison, and producer for campus colleagues and vendors on the creation of compelling video, photography, graphics and animation content; write compelling stories, narration, monologue or dialogue driven scripts that are understood by a diverse audience; use interactive marketing and content strategy in order to create scripts and videos for use on website, social media, digital advertising and other digital channels; capable of leading and contributing to the creative process, while at the same time being comfortable with the technical aspects of multimedia production for various environments including multi am shoots, live event streaming and digital signage.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience
Five years of experience in video production for a professional organization; strong writing, digital storytelling and presenting skills; expertise with capturing video and audio, and editing using Adobe Premiere CC; proven expertise in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop; a firm knowledge of media codecs, streaming technology, YouTube channel uploading, encoding software, the ability to adapt and export media content for multiple social media platforms, and some experience creating motion graphics; broad understanding of video cameras and camera control, shutter speeds, apertures, lens types, filters and effects; understanding of the principles involved in recording good audio in different conditions, and understanding the principles of 3-point lighting, white balancing, color temperatures and light maintenance; ability to convey ideas through story boarding; ability to edit under tight deadlines. The ability to represent the University’s brand through storytelling.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education
Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred Experience
More than five years of experience creating videos for the interactive marketing environment for higher education, including digital advertising, YouTube, social media platforms and websites; proven experience writing scripts and storyboarding ideas for higher education. Drone operation experience (Part 107 licensed); direct report and mentoring experience; and an expertise in creating motion graphics and video animations.
Preferred Other
Familiarity with DSLR and Drone equipment.

Serve as resident expert, consultant and liaison for campus colleagues on the creation of compelling video content, translating university messaging into compelling videos that exemplify the Ball State brand.

Develop engaging video content that tells the Ball State story in ways that build and deepen positive relationships across constituencies.

Consult with and advise clients to write original scripts in order to create accurate and informative films/video for on campus presentation and for use online.

Direct, film, capture and edit a variety of footage, including interviews, live event coverage, and studio production.

Work with strategic communication leadership to brainstorm, develop, and maintain strategic video and interactive content for the brand; develop proposals for innovative strategies and realistic solutions to increase reach of content.

Develop and maintain relationships with clients across campus and in the community in order to ensure a regular flow of up-to-date video content for the website, social media, and other promotional use.

Maintain expert knowledge of interactive video developments and all aspects of video production, including directing and cinematography, clean audio and lighting, as well as post-production editing techniques and software for audio sweetening, color grading, animated graphics, and compression for delivery.
