  • Salary for this position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

  • This position can be based from Austin TTI or Bryan/College Station TTI.

Job Summary:

This position requires a highly functional, self-motivated, highly skilled, energetic person that is interested in solving transportation and environmental challenges. A person in this position is expected to function as an independent researcher that directs/leads research projects as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator and or contribute significant technical expertise/skills to multi-disciplinary teams that work on a broad range of topics pertaining to multimodal transportation planning and policy analysis. In their role as Principal Investigator candidates should have demonstrated experience writing competitive proposals, working with transportation agencies, plan projects of significant scope, execute oversight and leadership of self-initiated research projects, author or co-author reports and scholarly publications based on original research, and manage project budgets to ensure projects is completed on time and within budget.

Candidates in this position works independently under the general direction of the TTI Program Manager and Division Head. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties:

  • Assemble, organize, analyze, document, and archive datasets. Synthesize data and extract meaningful statistics and trends. Analyze and develop potential new techniques, policies, procedures, visualizations, and recommendations. Conduct the necessary literature review and background information search to support techniques and methodologies used, as well as documenting past research for reporting purposes. (35%)

  • Execute oversight and leadership of self-initiated research projects, author or co-author reports, technical memoranda, journal articles, training materials for external users, and presentations. (20%)

  • Manage, mentor, communicate, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams comprising of research staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and support staff to ensure the completion of high quality deliverables on-time and to the expectations of the client. (20%)

  • Business development:  Actively seek and obtain externally-funded research projects, performing work on basic and applied technology problems, and participate in research proposals serving as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI. (15%)

  • Assist with the overall direction and management, which includes the day-to-day supervision, planning, administration, evaluation, and implementation of the division/program's research functions. (5%)

  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in related field

  • 5 years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), in Database software (e.g., MS ACCESS, SQL, VBA, etc.), in visualization software (Tableau, etc.), and in Statistical Software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc.).

  • ArcGIS skills and Python

  • Ability to work independently, have a strong work ethic, detail orientated, and be dependable.

  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knows and effectively uses the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization; continues development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience and application.

  • Experience identifying solutions for current, near-term and long-range transportation or environmental challenges.

  • Experience in transportation planning/engineering.

  • Advanced data visualization skills

  • Fluent in Spanish

  • Professional Engineering license

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
