UW Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Technical Project Manager !

The Project Management Office (PMO) oversees Advancement’s technology project portfolio to ensure that the overall collection of projects is aligned with Advancement’s mission and strategic goals; and provides consultation and expert technology project management support for high-priority projects in collaboration with UW Advancement, UW-IT, and unit/campus partners across the UW.

The Sr. Technical Project Manager is responsible for:

• Project Management: This role will be responsible for project managing and bringing to a successful closure a broad range of high-profile, complex projects at the University of Washington and its affiliated organizations.   This position utilizes a broad spectrum of skills which include IT knowledge (networking, telecommunications, data center, cloud-based computing, security), business process analysis, problem solving, public relations, contract negotiation, cost structuring, financial management / budgeting and extensive project management skills. The position purview includes all units within UW Advancement, ensuring that staff and management apply relevant project management practices. This position uses the tools, techniques, and processes provided by global project management standards and guides.

• Leadership:   This position will lead a wide-ranging portfolio of technology projects for UW Advancement, and provide guidance and oversight to project-specific adjunct, temporary and consultant staff. Additionally, this role will provide coaching, mentorship and training to other project managers within Advancement to help broaden the utilization and impact of project management best practices as they pertain to UW Advancement.

• Governance:   As a member of the PMO this role will participate in evaluating, selecting, and prioritizing technology projects, working with IM and Advancement leadership to define success and ensure project and portfolio results align with Advancement priorities as defined by goals and objectives. This role will collaborate with IM colleagues in identifying areas for continuous improvement and work closely with senior leadership to hone their knowledge of PMO processes and maximize positive impact on UW Advancement Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management

• Develop, manage and continually improve the project portfolio and IT Governance processes.
• Participate in development of business cases using strategy and investment guidelines.
• Work with key stakeholders to draft charters (goals, deliverables, resource requirements, milestones, timelines, tasks and assignments) in accordance with the PMO standards and policies.
• Keep project progress on track, manage risk and report progress of the project health. Escalate as appropriate to sponsors, team members, and other stakeholders and keep them informed. Regularly update project documentation, provide timely project summaries, and facilitate meetings for communication and publish for visibility.
• Assist in oversight of major project contracts and consulting agreements, as well the procurement process for major projects.

Leadership

• Provide strategic leadership for the discipline of Project Management within UW Advancement, participating in the oversight of tools, platforms, and methods related to the same.
• Supervise the work of project-specific temporary staff, consultants, or embedded vendor/unit staff as necessary.
• Coach and mentor others on project management tools and techniques with other units, divisions, and organizations.
• Provide training and guidance to junior | adjunct | embedded project managers and others outside of the PMO across UW Advancement
• Create sustained training artifacts through a variety of media on project management best practices.

Governance

• Participate with senior leadership and management to prioritize project initiatives per UW-IT goals and objectives.
Perform other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, IT, Computer Science or related field
• Minimum of five years of experience managing progressively more complex IT projects in applications, infrastructure and networking, and comprehensive understanding of the underlying technologies.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL:

• Demonstrated advanced project management skills.
• Experience with enterprise application development, SDLC processes, agile/scrum frameworks re-engineering and process improvement involving broad-based information systems and utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change.
• Experience in deploying large, complex systems implementing business process redesign.
• Experience in project and software development lifecycles and corresponding tools such as issue tracking systems, configuration management systems, requirements management systems and project management systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large technology projects within a team environment.
• Ability to manage a diverse range of activities in a very visible and pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to speak and write about technical and non-technical issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Expertise with project management, collaboration, database, spreadsheet and word processing applications.
• Experience communicating with senior leadership and management through all project processes, during priority setting, and providing project status.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
