Job Description


Performs professional accounting activities for the Arizona State University Tax Department. As part of the duties there will be varied and complex tax calculations and reviews related to multiple tax and accounting functions. Requires the ability to be detail orientated, flexible, and provide a high caliber of service to multiple departments, employees and others related to the university.

A successful candidate, not presently employed within Financial Services, will be paid a signing bonus of $750 and a $1,250 bonus after completing six months of employment with the department.

Essential Duties

Duties will include: daily transactional analysis for accuracy and appropriate tax and accounting treatment, worker classification review and consulting, sales and use tax review and guidance, 1099 reporting, payments to foreign national compliance, and additional compliance as assigned. This also includes advising and being a liaison across departments in regards to processes and methods for payments as well as assisting them in finding solutions that accomplish their goals while still complying with the various rules and regulations. This position has to be adaptable to changes in job duties and be able to manage environments of change.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field AND two (2) years of professional accounting experience; OR, six (6) years professional accounting experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, practices, principles and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Experience in performing detailed numerical computations.
  • Experience in preparing detailed reports on a timely basis.
  • Evidence of effective communication.
  • Experience in the use of computer hardware and software.

Working Environment

  • Work in an office setting and use office equipment.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time, travel moderate distances to perform work.
  • Use hands/fingers for repetitive motions.
  • Effective communication skills to perform essential duties.
  • Read-interpret written and oral instructions/directions.
  • May require lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
