The Senior Systems Manager assumes a leadership role in managing the systems area of Student Financial Aid (SFA) within the Office of Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) at The Ohio State University. Leads and manages the day-to-day operations of the SFA Systems Support area. Leads planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of student information systems for SFA. Advises the Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) on overall planning of future systems development.

Collaborating with SFA leadership, the Senior Systems Manager identifies needs, challenges, and strategies for implementing systems solutions, while also ensuring efficient allocation of staff and resources within the SFA Systems area. This role involves scheduling projects, assigning personnel, and monitoring progress, as well as maintaining regular communication with staff and leadership on SFA systems-related issues. The Senior Systems Manager actively collaborates with the SFA leadership team to streamline and enhance business processes, identifying opportunities for automation and managing aid year set up, budget, and aid strategy formulas. Provides direction for successful interface of systems with other stakeholder offices and campuses in conjunction with the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) and Student Technology Solutions (STS). The Senior Systems Manager plays a pivotal role in providing technical direction to SFA, researching and implementing new technologies, and prioritizing enhancement requests in collaboration with the STS team. Coordinates with OTDI and STS timelines for PeopleSoft software releases and move to production activities. Coordinates SFA Systems testing and end user testing. 

Approves functional designs for OTDI development activity. Provides technical direction to SFA, researches new technologies and directs implementation. Works with AVP to prioritize enhancement requests for SFA and provides input to the governance body of the prioritization process. Responds to staff's daily operational questions. The Senior Systems Manager ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, as well as with OTDI processes and procedures, while maintaining data and file security within information systems. Serves as SFA security contact. Assists in investigation of SEM systems software/hardware including feasibility and compatibility studies for office automation. Maintains working knowledge of current Student Information System (SIS) technical documentation including requirements, user guides and training manuals. Employs a comprehensive performance management process including setting expectations through performance planning, providing on-going coaching/mentoring, and reinforcing expectations through constant performance feedback and takes appropriate action when necessary.

Identifies training needs and arranges for appropriate training for staff. Disseminates information and collaborates on the development of office policies and procedures. Represents SFA through serving on committees and attending meetings. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 7 years of relevant experience required. Experience in an information technology environment, especially with systems analysis work and previous supervisory experience is required.  Prior experience working on a systems team within a higher education environment.

Desired:

Knowledge of PeopleSoft Administration, imaging technology, web applications and other major programming systems and software applications is desired. Knowledge of student financial aid processes and procedures as well as a working knowledge of Student financial aid regulations. 12 or more years of relevant experience preferred.
