Senior Systems Engineer

The Berkeley College Information Systems Department has an opening for a Senior Systems Engineer on the Infrastructure Team. This remote/hybrid position is based out of the Woodland Park, NJ campus but limited travel to other campuses and data center is required. The candidate will perform systems administration and engineering for all Berkeley College's Infrastructure services along with other members of the team.

Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitors and responds to trouble tickets submitted by users and/or staff to ensure timely resolution to Infrastructure related issues.
  • Provide advanced systems support: Support and troubleshoot mission-critical enterprise Windows systems and cloud services, as well as ensuring system security.
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain Windows server including monthly patching of servers.
  • Ensure data recoverability through multiple backup services.
  • Ensure monitoring, maintenance, and remediate of all infrastructure hardware and software.
  • Maintain and create identity integrations with various systems through API or scripting.
  • Provides recommendations regarding hardware and software for planning and budgeting.
  • Ability to perform detailed work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Take direction and complete projects assigned by the Director of Infrastructure.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Travel is required to all Berkeley College Campuses and the Data Center.

Requirements:

  • Experience with VMware vSphere Hypervisor
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server Platform, ADFS, IIS, DNS, DHCP, Sites and Services, Certificate Authority and Domains.
  • Experience with all aspects of disaster recovery and backup systems
  • Experience with Fiber and iSCSI Storage platforms.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring services for on-premise and cloud services such as CheckMK.
  • Experience with authentication, infrastructure services, access policies and related infrastructure security considerations.
  • Basic understanding of LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages and automation of tasks through Powershell and other languages.
  • Strong background with Cloud technologies including Azure and Office365.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and troubleshoot issues with multiple services simultaneously until a resolution is found.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Higher Education Environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in the Information Technology Field or equivalent experience.
