This position is a senior level position within our systems administration group. You will support Linux-based systems and processes, as well as various IT appliances and turn-key solutions. You will provide technical support for faculty, staff and students. You will help install, maintain, and troubleshoot standard PC hardware and software, and resolve user and system problems. You will be responsible for backups, file sharing, data integrity and systems security. You will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance and integrity of server software, and implement operating system enhancements to improve the reliability and performance of the systems. You may lead various projects, direct staff activities, and evaluate their work.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Systems Administration team to carry out routine System Administration functions and services. Provide technical support to faculty, staff and students to manage daily operations for Linux machines as well as various IT appliances and turn-key systems. Help install, maintain, and troubleshoot standard PC hardware and software, and resolve user and system problems. Process tickets escalated from the Helpdesk. Maintain compliance with current security standards and policies.
  • Maintain licenses and contracts. Assist in maintaining hardware and software inventories. Assist in researching and recommending hardware purchases.
  • Manage and oversee access to Linux/Appliance based file sharing, web, data backups, and assigned cloud-based storage and services.
  • Create reports and documentation. Assist with Disaster Recover Plans. Document problems and their resolution.
  • Help maintain network based system, service and performance monitoring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of professional experience in information technology, security or related field.
  • Proven problem solver with ability to provide in-depth analysis of complex problems.
  • Ability to ensure standards and parameters for any systems on the University network are correct and meet minimum security standards.
  • Strong knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in systems administration.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written) and good interpersonal and organizational skills, with a professional demeanor and strong personal ethics.
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to take ownership and complete assigned tasks.
  • Detail oriented, with good problem solving skills and with the ability to anticipate and provide solutions that result in gained efficiencies in business processes and improved customer service.
  • Ability to present and explain complex technical topics, problems and alternative solutions to interested parties of varying technical backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of common Linux scripting languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and without day-to-day supervision on highly varied technical tasks with changing priorities.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with personal computer hardware, including processors, motherboards, memory, hard disks, and peripherals such as scanners, cameras, printers, external hard drives, etc.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations including but not limited to: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), & Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB) Act and Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Experience with Orcharhino, Puppet, and Ansible.


Salary Range

$70,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Occasional weekend, overtime, and evening work to meet deadlines
