Job Description Summary:
The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) Graduate Student Services office is seeking a Senior Student Services Specialist who serves as a point of contact for graduate prospective students through the student lifecycle to graduation. The Senior Student Services Specialist has responsibility for a portfolio of approximately 600 graduate students. Primary responsibilities include advising students on academic processes and policy, assisting in registration, graduate clearances, and exception requests. The Senior Student Services Specialist will also be cross-trained in graduate admissions so they may assist the admissions team as necessary.
This position typically serves as an integral point of contact for faculty, staff, and students throughout their lifecycle to graduation. This role is typically responsible for advising students on registration, graduation, and exception requests, advising faculty and staff on university policies and procedures, and reviewing and auditing student records. This position also typically researches and evaluates unusual or complex problems and requests, liaises with other GW contacts as needed, and resolves unusual or complex problems. This role often determines eligibility for graduation.
Responsibilities Include:
Graduate Student Services
  • Advises students on registration, graduation, exception requests and academic standing. Counsels students on University and CCAS policies and procedures.
  • Advises faculty of CCAS and University policies and procedures. Trains faculty on new procedures and technologies as they are initiated into the College.
  • Reviews and audits students’ academic records and tracks degree progress. Makes recommendations regarding academic standing.
  • Processes CCAS and University forms.
  • Researches and evaluates unusual or complex problems and requests concerning graduate students, contacts the department and other GW units and/or student as needed; finds solutions to unusual or complex problems.
  • Advises the Associate Dean and/or faculty advisor when a student’s record indicates a need for action.
  • Creates and runs Tableau and ServiceNow reports for regular use by staff and faculty. Builds new queries and reports as necessary.
  • During seasonal peaks, assists the admissions teams in the preparation and processing of graduate admission applications. Evaluates applications for completeness, eligibility, prepares applications for review.
  • Plans and participates in events including, but not limited to, student orientation, the GW Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, CCAS Celebration and University Commencement and admitted student days.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
