The Senior Stage Manager, under direction, manages event setups, staging, and set construction for large stage performances and productions in theaters and other University venues. If the description sounds interesting to you, we invite you to apply to be considered for this opportunity.

What you need to know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six years of experience in Performance Productions, including theatre, dance and/or music

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in managing backstage crew training and job completion.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends for performances.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in dance/theatre production.
  • Experience working on collaborative projects and various artistic forms
  • Experience programming, running, and editing light board cues
  • Experience implementing the vision of directors and choreographers into lighting and stage design
  • Experience working backstage as stagehand, lighting, and sound technician

Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight - Provide performance/exhibit support to faculty and students. Provide performance/exhibit support for outreach and recruitment events. Provide additional performance production support for School initiatives as needed. Oversees stage settings to include scenery, and stage lighting. Coordinate with faculty and staff on lighting, sound, and scenic design. Design special stage set ups for both local and visiting artists as needed. Oversees facility maintenance of rehearsal and performance spaces. Work with faculty to procure performance and production equipment. Manage the schedules of rehearsal and performance spaces. Recruit, organize, and train volunteer production crew. Coordinate with Marketing and Communications. Oversee ticketing. Design, print, and distribute programs. Oversee running crew during performances. Oversee performance load-in and strike. Provide hospitality/concierge support for visiting artists and scholars. Review technical riders in coordination with other Operations Staff. Assist in annual budget planning for the visual and performing arts presenting spaces.
  • Communication - Communicates instructions to stage designers and craft workers. Communicates with curricular and research faculty. Reports regularly to the Director of Operations
  • Supervision - Supervise and trains stage crew and maintenance staff. Supervises student technicians.
