Summary

The Advanced Technology Core Labs at Baylor College of Medicine ( https://www.bcm.edu/research/atc-core-labs ) provide state-of-the-art instrumentation and technologies to support faculty research on a fee-for-service basis. The NMR and Drug Metabolism Core ( https://www.bcm.edu/research/atc-core-labs/nmr-and-drug-metabolism-core ) is seeking a highly-motivated, organized and enthusiastic Senior Staff Scientist to perform LC-MS-based quantitative analyses of fluid and tissue samples. The Core is well equipped with a Thermo UHPLC-TSQ Quantis (triple quadrupole) MS instrument and has access to a UHPLC-Q Exactive MS instrument for LC-HRMS-based methods. The Core also operates and maintains two NMR spectrometers and provides NMR services. We anticipate expanding our Core offerings to include imaging mass spectrometry services and tissue-culture-based cytotoxicity assays. Job Duties

  • Maintains Core lab equipment
  • Prepares samples for LC-MS analysis
  • Plans and performs biochemical assays using purified enzymes or liver microsomes
  • Designs HPLC methods to resolve parent compounds and their metabolites
  • Develops LC-MS/MS-based quantification methods
  • Designs and implements LC-MS-based quantification of known compounds in user-supplied samples
  • Prepares data summaries for users
  • Processes, analyzes, and interprets LC-MS and LC-MS/MS data
  • Documents and interprets experimental results and reports to Core leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Seven years of postdoctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD degree in a related Biomedical Science discipline (Pharmacology, Toxicology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related Biomedical Science discipline)
  • Prior experience with HPLC, especially of small molecules, and with MS, LC-MS, and/or LC-MS/MS
  • Prior experience with standard curves and quantitative analysis
  • Prior experience preparing homogenates of biological tissue samples and/or sectioning, staining or imaging tissues would be helpful
  • Prior experience with NMR spectroscopy and/or with tissue culture would be helpful
