The key purpose of this position is to support and influence the early candidate substrate from a physical chemical, drug delivery and bioperformance perspective through close collaboration with partners on the Research Project Teams and in Pharmaceutical Science. You will need to act as a pharmaceutical science subject matter expert to inform, educate and influence Discovery teams in finding NCEs with desirable drug delivery and performance properties. This role will include assessment of in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as design of stage appropriate formulations for preclinical studies. An awareness of later stage development needs as well as an understanding of the disease state and biology will help to enable the definition of the required design elements.

This position will interface with multidisciplinary teams and work closely with colleagues in Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, Drug Safety and Pharmacokinetics Dynamics & Metabolism. Strong relationships with Clinical, Analytical, Materials Science and late-stage clinical formulation colleagues are also expected.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Apply technical and functional knowledge to design experiments, and independently completes work within own work group/ project team, working on multiple subprojects in parallel.
  • Closely collaborate with Research partners to evaluate molecular attributes relevant to drug delivery and influence team strategies.
  • Design and develop fit for purpose preclinical formulations (traditional and enabling) to enable robust candidate selection and progression.
  • Assess and clearly communicate drug delivery and performance risks (using in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as sound scientific principles)
  • Act as a technical and scientific resource within own project team/ discipline.
  • Identify opportunities to use computational tools to help solve project challenges.
  • Ensure own work, meets agreed project deliverables and stakeholder needs, maintaining quality and reporting findings either verbally or in written format
  • Participate on multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate with colleagues to reach project milestones and project timelines.
  • Participate on Pharmaceutical Sciences teams in the development of novel small molecule drug products.
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary teams composed of scientists with experience and expertise in biology, pharmacology, synthetic organic chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, etc.
  • Develop hypotheses, design experiments to test hypothesis and provide interpretation of data to assist in resolving challenging physicochemical problems associated with drug delivery systems.
  • Develop strategic collaborations with academic and industrial researchers for addressing gaps in fundamental or applied science related to the physics and physical chemistry of the solution sate thermodynamics for organic compounds.
  • Publish research in reputed scientific journals and give presentations at national and international conferences.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MA/MS) and 7+ years of relevant experience or Doctoral Degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) in Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or Biophysics
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills .
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills .
  • Application and use of fundamental principles to solve complex drug delivery and formulation problems.
  • Skills with working in research teams at interfaces and in multi-disciplinary environments is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of data structure, capture, analysis and visualization is desired; experience with Spotfire or Tableau would be beneficial.
  • Demonstration of strong scientific leadership and curation and execution of new technology initiatives is desired.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have the ability to perform laboratory and office work.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Intermittent travel to Groton, Connecticut will be necessary.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
