ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP) is seeking a cell biologist or process engineer in the Discovery Bioprocess group. Qualified candidate will play an essential role in a high-energy protein expression research laboratory.

The Expression group is responsible for non-GMP protein drug lead generation, supporting the various Pfizer research units and their pre-clinical therapeutic in-vitro and in-vivo needs.

The successful candidate will bring to this role:

  • Knowledge and Experience of running bioreactors, single-use or CIP. Mammalian cell culture.
  • Understanding of cellular bioprocess and implications in protein production.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work on several projects in multi-department collaborative matrix, presenting results and providing updates at group/project meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Scaleup of CHO pools in disposable 5-100L bioreactors
  • Generate stable CHO cell lines, cell banks, expression assessments
  • Depth filtration of conditioned media
  • Capture data in electronic notebook and routinely provide updates to project teams.
  • Work with the head of group, project leads, and other senior group members on experimental design and providing data packages with the goal of identifying and advancing best strategies
  • Successful candidate will be involved in the design and execution of projects with the ability to operate independently
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, Molecular biology, BEP Purification group, research units, and BTxPS
  • Occasional travel to Cambridge, MA

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A PhD with 0-3 years of relevant experience, MS with 7+ years, BS with 15+ years of relevant experience in Biomedical Science, Chemical Engineering, Biology or a related discipline along with a solid understanding of cellular bioprocesses involved in biotherapeutic production.
  • Strong understanding of controlled bioreactor operations. Disposable or SIP/CIP reactors.
  • Extensive experience with suspension antibiotic-free mammalian cell culture and stable cell line generation
  • Strong communication skills, written, oral and organizational skills.
  • People Mentorship experience
  • Prior experience in therapeutic protein discovery and biochemistry research

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience highly preferred
  • Knowledge of DeltaV/Trubio control systems.
  • Experience with Process Optimization, comprehension of statistics and experimental design.
  • Protein Determination using HPLC, Western blot analysis
  • Familiarity with Unicorn, Empower and Chemstation
  • Ability to run Flow Cytometry independently using FACS Diva and/or FlowJo
  • Proven track record in project delivery

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
