Senior Research Technician, Purdue Animal and Behavior Core (PABC)

Job Summary

The Senior Research Technician will manage the day-to-day activities in the Purdue Animal and Behavior Core (PABC) and perform animal behavior studies or biochemical assays for Purdue faculty, its external partners, and the PABC. The PABC, located in Purdue’s Discovery Park, offers equipment and the expertise needed to perform a wide range of rodent behavioral tests to study neurodegenerative diseases, pain and healing, addiction, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and psychiatric disorders. The Senior Research Technician will be involved in a multitude of neuroscience and physiological studies. They will work closely with the PABC Director to train core users, troubleshoot experimental protocols, set up equipment for use, monitor online scheduling, and supervise undergraduate interns. The PABC also performs independent and collaborative research on neurodegenerative diseases and develops innovative methods to link behavior and brain functioning. The technician will play a role in managing and performing these studies when needed.  

 

Required:

  • B.S in Biology, Neuroscience, Psychological Sciences, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a research laboratory working with rodent models and/or performing animal behavior testing
  • In lieu of a B.S. degree candidates must have four (4) years of experience in animal behavior testing in a research laboratory setting
  • Highly motivated with an interest in neuroscience research
  • Training, teaching, or management experience
  • Experience handling laboratory animals
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience troubleshooting computer software and scientific equipment
  • Ability to work independently, lead, and work productively within a team 
  • Proficiency in Excel, WORD, GraphPad Prism and SPSS 

 

Preferred:

  • Programming experience in MatLab, R or Python
  • Drug administration to laboratory animals (I.P., S.C., PO)
