Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Research Specialist. This position leads the implementation of quantitative and qualitative research, planning, technical assistance, and training projects and programs and secures external funding to support projects and programs.
Among the key duties of this position are:
  • Serves as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on externally-funded projects and programs; develops original research plans, schedules, and protocols and ensures awarded or assigned projects are completed according to work plans, on time, and on budget; develops and promotes research products and capabilities for the center and center programs; reinforces existing client/sponsor relationships; and provides subjective matter expertise and technical assistance to a variety of constituencies.
  • Implements appropriate research plans and methodologies while directly or jointly managing project teams conducting the research, planning, technical assistance, and training projects.
  • Writes technical reports, journal articles, and other work products, and prepares and delivers conference presentations.
  • Completes work independently with broadly defined work objectives and a limited review of overall results.
  • Performs professional work that requires specialized knowledge in the field of city and regional planning and public policy and a solid understanding of key concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology related to transportation planning and policy development.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in urban planning, public policy, transportation planning or engineering, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of planning principles and practices and/or public policy development; quantitative and qualitative research methods and analysis; as well as article/report preparation and submission; as well as subject matter expertise related to bicycle and pedestrian research and planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in transportation planning or engineering, public policy, sociology, economics, or other closely related social science field is desired.
  • Experience, knowledge, and subject matter expertise in the concentrations of metropolitan and regional planning; public and stakeholder engagement; and/or transit/paratransit planning and operations are also desired.
Equipment Utilized
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in GIS, web publishing, statistical analysis software (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, etc.); Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, and Dreamweaver)
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Office setting.
  • Some observational field work and data collection
  • Field work requires mostly in-state travel and outdoor walking and/or bicycling in urban, suburban and occasionally rural settings in New Jersey.

Immunization Requirements
