The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine strives for the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting-edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics and genomics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the department continues to have a long and successful record in training undergraduate, master, and graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The Senior Research Scientist position will be responsible for designing, administering, and implementing research projects. Collects data in accordance with ethical and technical principles. Selects and applies appropriate quantitative, statistical, and/or qualitative methods for analysis and interpretation of data. The position assumes major responsibilities for planning, conducting, and supervising research at a high level similar to that of an Associate or Full Professor. Using broad familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures, this role designs and conducts experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. This role relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of tasks to carry out research. This position leads and directs the work of others. This is the highest non-management research position. Duties include:
• Plans, designs, and conducts independent research on multiple related projects.
• Interprets assay results, summarizes findings, prepares manuscripts, and presents findings.
• Prepares grant applications.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s degree plus 8 years of experience or a PhD plus 5 years of experience in a related discipline, to include two years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Experience must include planning, conducting and reporting as primary responsibilities. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
